FGW Backs Down on Prosecution of Fare Striker

Following a direct approach from MTLS, Andrew Haines, Chief Executive Officer of FGW, has withdrawn the threat to prosecute one of the protestors in the January Fare Strike. Whilst hundreds of portestors who had their details taken by station staff at Bristol received a letter of apology from the rail company, a student travelling from Bristol Temple Meads to Oxford on a Fare Strike ticket received a letter demanding she pay a penalty fare or face prosecution. As far as we are aware she is the only protestor to receive a threat of this type. MTLS brought this to the attention of Andrew Haines, and explained that such inconsistent and inappropriate heavy handedness would do little to help to improve their image. Andrew Haines has agreed to cancel all demands for payment and withdraw threats of prosecution of the student following our intervention.
